Lake Norman VFD receives FEMA grant
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) today awarded $1,081,279 in Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) funding to local fire departments and emergency medical services organizations in the state of North Carolina.
Lake Norman Volunteer Fire Department received $61,750 for operations and safety.
"We know that training and equipment, when matched with the courage of individuals, can reduce risks and bring more of our men and women home each night," said FEMA Regional Administrator Phil May.
Nationally, this week's grants total $21 million. The AFG program includes three kinds of awards: Fire Grants, Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grants and Fire Prevention and Safety grants (FP&S).
