LNVFD gets Plymovent system

Visitors to Lake Norman's station may notice the yellow pipes hanging from the ceilling. This is the new Plymovent system recently installed. The Plymovent is an air filtration system that captures the exhaust from trucks and safely removes it from the area. The system was puchased with $61,750 from a FEMA grant. Lake Norman VFD received this grant thanks to many hours of work by Robert Burtsell.

Lake Norman holds annual awards banquet

Lake Norman Fire Department held their annual awards banquet December 5, 2009 at their station. Annual awards were presented to honor those who serve the department. Fire Officer of the Year award was presented to Herman Kruger for outstanding leadership in the department. Wesley Rigdon was named the Firefighter of the Year. This award is given by the officers of the department to an outstanding firefighter each year. The first ever Junior Firefighter of the Year award was given to Gunther Beam. The Chief's Award was given to Dana Joyner. Also, Jonathan Miller was recognized for 15 years of service and Matt Thompson was honored for 10 years of service to the department.

Woodland Heights Elementary Wins State Title

For a few tense minutes, it looked like the state crown would go to a team of fourth-graders from Mecklenburg County. But a couple of correct responses in the late stages pulled Woodland Heights Elementary even with Victory Christian School, sending the Fire and Life Safety Bowl title into a three-question tie-breaker.

Each team answered one question correctly, bringing the match down to the final question.

Woodland Heights buzzed in on the final question and got it right to bring the state Fire and Life Safety Quiz Bowl trophy home to Mooresville to be placed beside the county trophy the team won in March.

Fire Station Is First To Be Built With Tax Dollars

The Lake Norman Volunteer Fire Department is about to build a new firehouse, the first financed by Iredell's countywide fire tax district.

Previously, local volunteer fire departments held fund-raisers to pay the loans on their new stations. With slow, sporadic repayment, interest built up.
